We made it safely back from Cambodia.    While Simon was on his filming job, I kept myself busy with a 1/2 day cycling tour of the city which was fun.

We cycled north of Phnom Pehn to the Silk Islands,  The ride was around 25km through Cham Muslim communities on quiet back roads and tracks which was lovely. We then got a ferry to the Mekong islands where we cycled through orchards & market gardens and made a little stop at a silk factory/home where we first enjoyed some local fruits and then given guide of the silk process which was very interesting.

A few KM’s on, we stopped at a Tofu skin place (can’t think of the proper name)  It’s where they boil Soy beans and as it boils, a layer of skin builds which they cut, take off, hang to dry and then sell as a type of noodle supplement.    Didn’t look that nice to be honest.  It wasn’t smelly at all.

Pigs  ..they were fed the soy bean leftovers

Making our way back to the city, we stopped at a couple of temples and then caught a ferry back across the river where we had a lovely lunch and returned to back to the bike shop.   It was a great way to see a different side of Phnom Pehn.

After spending a couple of days on my own, I was reunited with a very smelly Simon on the Saturday  afternoon.   Boy he was pleased to be back. He said he’d been on what was like an episode of Survivor.  Hardly any sleep, no washing facilities, eaten only plain ride and spaghetti and returned in the same clothes that he’d left in  ..he had brushed his teeth and had been diving in very shallow waters, so that was a bonus.  ;-D

After a good shower, change of clothes and a little snooze we ventured out to investigate some of the markets and then went to a Speakeasybar  ..I’d never heard of them but they’re all the rage now apparently.   Check out the entrance!!

Reminds me of the Tardis
Lovely bar doing food & live band. Sound proofed of course

Hi everyone!!
We are both well and have been busy with work.  It’s been pretty manic with Chinese New year but thankfully that’s over and we can start to get back to normal.   The weather’s been lovely and diving has slowly been improving day by day.  The average water temperature at the moment is 29 degrees and visibility is around 10-20 meters 😀
I’ve not been out on the bike much and we haven’t been swimming but we’ve diving most days, teaching, coral transplanting, taking DMC’s out for ECO dive and clean up dives, so we’re getting some exercise.

Clean up Dive 172 kg collected
Structures we’ve made for Junkyard

Teaching Reef Check
Clean up ..mostly plastics
More coral transplants

Last weekend as treat we went to Samui to get away from it all.  We went to the cinema, go karting, did little grocery shopping and met up with one of our old students who was on Samui for a couple of days.  It was a very refreshing.  We returned to Koh Tao on Sunday afternoon where we went straight back into office mode but now we’re in Cambodia for 4 days as Simon has a filming job with Warner Bros down on the coast somewhere, I forget the name of it and I’m in Phnom Phen staying in the city all by myself.   We were going to have to do a visa run somewhere in the next couple of weeks, so as Simon is working with travel expenses being paid, it made sense for me to go too but just in different directions. Simons going to meet up with me in a couple of days.
I arrived at the Airbnb this afternoon ..I had some trouble with the directions (they were incorrect on the internet) but finally got there in the end.  It’s nice an clean …a little noisy but very convenient and its a bargain.

Tomorrow I’ve booked a 1/2 day cycling tour around Phnom Phen so very much looking forward to that.  I just hope I can find the office.  I’ve got to be there at 7.30 am  😀
