Day 7 camper

Today was a 350km journey from the West Coast to the East Coast, to hopefully go Whale Spotting tomorrow morning before heading to the ferry over to the North Island. Unfortunately it looks like the weather has foiled our plans, but we won’t know for definite until the morning.

We shared the drive over, and halfway through, we had to stop for a herd of cattle heading on down the road. Further along we came upon a seal colony (see quick video that Jen took).. never seen wild seals before… cute… but vicious!! Now camped up in Kaikoura, and heading to Picton Ferry tomorrow, to travel over to Wellington.

Day 6 camper

Day 6, and we worked our way up the West Coast, 200km North to Fox Glacier, and Franz Josef Glacier.

We spent the drive with blue skies, and sun… Very nice… but a couple of kilometres from the glacier, the weather changed to wind, rain, and cold… but once back out on the highway, it was very pleasant again.

We have just arrived in Greymouth, 200km North of the glaciers, and shall be working our way East tomorrow to try and get a whale watching trip… time permitting!

We eventually camped at a place called Haast, on the West Coast… population 40 I believe.. What a party town!. So I cooked Sausage, Mash and Beans…. TASTY!
